Real-Time Aquarium Data Tracking

This live aquarium dashboard provides real-time monitoring of water parameters, feeding schedules, and maintenance data from our active 29-gallon planted freshwater aquarium. By tracking key metrics like nitrate levels, feeding frequency, and dosing schedules, we maintain optimal water quality for our thriving community of neon tetras, panda cory catfish, and various live plants including java fern, anubias, and java moss.

Why We Track These Parameters

Nitrate Monitoring: Nitrate is the end product of the nitrogen cycle and the most important parameter for planted tank health. We track nitrate levels weekly to ensure they stay within the optimal range of 5-20 ppm. Elevated nitrate above 40 ppm can stress fish and promote algae growth, while levels below 5 ppm may indicate insufficient nutrients for plant growth. Our dashboard automatically flags elevated readings and recommends water changes when needed.

Feeding Schedule: Consistent feeding is crucial for fish health and water quality management. We track every feeding event, including the type of food provided (flakes, bloodworms, brine shrimp, algae wafers, and vegetables). This data helps us maintain dietary variety, prevent overfeeding, and correlate feeding patterns with water parameter changes. Our cory catfish particularly enjoy algae wafers, while the tetras eagerly consume flakes and frozen foods.

Maintenance & Dosing: Regular maintenance is the foundation of aquarium success. We log all water changes (typically 25-30% weekly), filter cleaning, plant trimming, and fertilizer dosing. Our dosing regimen includes NilocG Thrive Plus (comprehensive liquid fertilizer) administered 2-3 times weekly and occasional Seachem Excel for carbon supplementation and algae control. By tracking these activities, we can identify patterns and optimize our maintenance schedule.

What Beginners Can Learn

This dashboard demonstrates real-world aquarium management in action. New aquarists often struggle with knowing when to perform maintenance or how often to feed. Our transparent tracking shows that successful fishkeeping isn't about perfection—it's about consistent observation and timely response. Notice how our nitrate levels gradually rise between water changes, then drop after maintenance. This predictable pattern is the sign of a stable, cycled aquarium.

The data spans from September 2025 (when we completed the nitrogen cycle and added our first fish) through the present day, providing a complete timeline of tank establishment and maturation. Every milestone, from the first water change to adding new species, is documented here as part of our commitment to transparent, science-based fishkeeping education.
